License to Carry (LTC) Class Information

The state of Texas requires all firearms carriers to obtain a License to Carry, or LTC (formerly known as a concealed carry permit, Concealed Handgun License, or CHL).

Frisco Concealed Handgun’s LTC class follows all requirements outlined by the Texas Department of Public Safety. The online portion meets the 4-6 hour minimum in-class requirement; once you complete the online course, you will contact us to schedule your proficiency shooting test.

Once you complete the course, you can file your License to Carry application with the Texas Department of Public Safety and obtain your fingerprint clearance.

Online LTC Class Topics

The online portion of the course takes 4-6 hours to complete. Once you complete the course, you will be required to pass a test consisting of 25 multiple choice/true-false questions.

The topics covered include:

  • Use of force and deadly force
  • Non-violent dispute resolution
  • Gun safety and safe storage of firearms including use of restraint holsters and methods to ensure the secure carrying of openly carried handguns.
  • Proper storage practices for handguns with an emphasis on storage practices that eliminate the possibility of accidental injury to a child.
  • Licensing requirements: electronic fingerprints.
  • Passing a test consisting of 25 questions (multiple choice and true-false)

LTC Proficiency Shooting Test

Once you complete the online course and range qualification, you will need to pre-qualify for your LTC with the state of Texas.
To pre-qualify, you will submit an application to the Texas Department of Public Safety. They will track your progress through the License to Carry process, so they can issue your license when you have finished.

LTC Fingerprint Clearance

Once you’ve completed all of the above steps, you will need to be fingerprinted. This can be done through IdentoGO.

Congrats! After the state verifies that you have completed each step of the process, you will be issued a License to Carry.
